How does Chiropractic work?
What are chiropractors?
Chiropractors are registered practitioners under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency to ensure that Australia’s health practitioners are trained, qualified, and safe to practice.
Macquarie University in Sydney, New South Wales has a 3 year Bachelor of Chiropractic Science degree and a 2 year Master of Chiropractic degree. The chiropractors are trained in anatomy, neurology, physiology, differential diagnosis, musculoskeletal management, radiography, and radiology.
What is chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a healthcare profession that focuses on the diagnosis, management, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and their effects. The primary reason Australians seek chiropractic care is for the treatment of spine-related disorders, especially back pain, headaches, and neck pain.
Chiropractors use their hands to examine and treat health conditions related to the bones, muscles, and joints (musculoskeletal problems).
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A standard chiropractic procedure is an adjustment, where the chiropractor’s hands or a specially designed instrument delivers a controlled and accurate force to a joint that is restricted, locked up, or not moving properly. The chiropractor may use a quick, firm approach or a slower, more gentle technique, and either can be modified for maximum comfort and results.
What is the goal of a spinal adjustment?
The goal of spinal adjustment (or manipulation), is to ultimately alleviate pain and restore overall health by stabilising the biomechanics of the body by:
- Improve spinal motion
- Improve joint mobility
- Promote healing
- Releasing nerve impingement
